Tarek Funk is a Syrian Palestinian MC, multi-instrumentalist, and bandleader making hip hop, funk, Afrobeat, and Arabesque fusion. His music blends different cultures and genres of liberation sounds. His pen is inspired by Levantine poets like Mahmoud Darwish and Khalil Gibran. His saxophones echo the vibrations of Fela Kuti and Maceo Parker. His lyrical style and huge stage presence as a rapper channel the soulful energy of Jill Scott and Black Thought. Since 2007, Tarek Funk has released 7 projects and has been eating mics across Turtle Island in independent venues, protests, and large festivals like Hillside, Supercrawl, and Sunfest, sharing stages with many internationally acclaimed artists such as Femi Kuti, Raekwon of the Wu-Tang Clan, and C.L.
