You may recall the innovative post-folk Mexican band BuenRostro from their theatrical border-transcending shows fusing Mexican cultures and sounds at recent Canadian festivals, including the Calgary Folk Music Festival. It was a wonderful celebration of Mexican roots that also addressed environmental and social awareness. The trio PAR DE DOS happens to be the husband-and-wife leaders of BuenRostro, along with their son, returning to entertain families. It’s a joyous, playful and interactive reflection of Latin American identity through “con-cierto desorden” (some mess, clutter). Blending live music, clown theatre and participatory games, they invite audiences to sing, dance and rediscover the freedom of collective play. It’s a sensory journey through diverse sounds and rhythms of Latin America as music intertwines with poetry, humour and movement, revealing the beauty of the region's cultures and languages. The show encourages audiences to let go of social rigidity, to embrace spontaneity and joy. With multiple instruments, choreography, and theatricality, PAR DE DOS crafts a dynamic and heartfelt experience where music becomes a bridge for cultural connection. - Kerry Clarke
