OKAN

OKAN

Taking their name from the word for “heart” in the Afro-Cuban religion of Santería, the duo OKAN creates an alchemy of Cuban rhythms and chants with high-octane indie jazz and pop. Singing in Spanish, Yoruba, and Spanglish, OKAN explores resistance, rebirth, and joy — forging rhythm and harmony through acts of survival, both personal and cultural. Following their Juno Award–winning album Okantomi — performed on NPR’s Tiny Desk and toured internationally while supporting Grammy-winning duo Rodrigo y Gabriela — OKAN’s upcoming fall release "Ife Ira" features a collaboration with Daymé Arocena. OKAN is led by violinist and vocalist Elizabeth Rodríguez and percussionist and vocalist Magdelys Savigne — both Grammy and Latin Grammy nominees — whose powerful harmonies and fearless musicianship have earned the duo a global following.
